Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt share six children together, which include Maddox Chivan, 22, Zahara Marley, Shiloh Nouvel, 17, Pax Thien, 19, and twins Knox Leon and Vivienne Marcheline, 15. They adopted three of their children, including Zahara, who was adopted from Ethiopia.

Last year, Jolie made headlines when she dropped her daughter off at her Atlanta-based school and got emotional at the goodbye. In a video posted by the university’s VP of Student Affairs, Darryl Holloman, Ph.D., the Oscar-winning actress talked to the school’s president Dr. Helene Gayle, about the emotions she was feeling about dropping her daughter off.

Off-camera, Jolie is asked how she is feeling, and she responds, “I’m gonna start crying.” She also mentioned how she felt excited about being a ‘Spelman mom.’

Now, in a video posted by Essence, it seems like 18-year-old Zahara has made a decision about her time at Spelman college. In the video, Zahara can be seen dancing across a stage in a ceremony where she is being initiated into the Alpha Kappa Alpha (AKA) Sorority, the first intercollegiate historically African American sorority.

“Ivies Up! The first Black sorority just gained a very familiar face as a member,” the magazine wrote in the caption for the Instagram post. The caption went on, “Congratulations to Zahara Marley Jolie-Pitt, daughter of Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, who just joined Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. at Spelman College!”

Other notable figures who have been a part of AKA sorority are women like director Ava DuVernay, Vice President Kamala Harris, civil rights icon Rosa Parks, author Toni Morrison, journalist Robin Roberts as well as actress Jada Pinkett-Smith.

As part of the ceremony, Zahara can be seen yelling out her name and where she is from. She then calls herself an AKA sister and No. 7 in the line of new initiates into the sorority.

“We see you and can’t wait to see all you do in the name of sisterhood, scholarship, and service to all mankind!” Essence wrote in the caption.

In the comments, people were getting emotional about Zahara’s pledge to the sorority. They appreciated that while she had been raised by white parents, she was still in touch with her roots and race.

One person wrote, “This makes me want to cry. This baby girl was raised in such a way that she could connect as much as possible to her roots. That is soooo commendable.”

“[Shout out] to the white parents who ensure their black children get to have cultured experiences. Angelina has always been a humanitarian so it only makes sense that her children continue in service,” another commenter wrote.

This is such a heartwarming thing to witness. We wish Zahara the best of luck for her college years!
