A dog: neglected, facing euthanasia. How sad does this sound? Unfortunately, this is the heartbreaking truth for thousands of dogs that are cruelly abandoned by their owners. One such story comes from California, where a tiny, one-year-old pup was about to face the inevitable. Emaciated and severely neglected, little Reese found herself in a crowded shelter, just days away from euthanasia. Through no fault of her own, she was sentenced to the worst possible scenario—until she met her heroes!
Saved at the Last Moment
Reese completely shut down after being brought to a local shelter. Confused and scared of everything and everyone, all she wanted was someone to show her kindness. Thanks to the giant-hearted people of Wags and Walks Rescue in Los Angeles, California, her dream soon came true!
Rescued at the last moment from a very crowded shelter that had no resources to keep or treat her medical issues, Reese was given a second chance. Despite being only one year old, Reese looked like a senior dog who had lived a rough life. Her advanced mange caused open wounds all over her body. On top of that, she had an infected puncture in her eye from a bite, and she was severely emaciated.
“At just 1-year-old Reese has suffered unthinkable neglect. She is skin and bones, has painful, advanced mange and infections,” her rescuers reported.
Seeing Reese in such a dire condition broke the hearts of her rescuers. Neglected her entire life, it seemed she had never felt the loving hand of a human. Determined to help her, the rescue team soon found the perfect foster home for her.
Now, She Wears the Coolest PJ’s
A couple named Walker and Rebecca welcomed Reese into their home with open hearts. Thanks to the incredible community of people who funded Reese’s recovery process, this resilient girl felt so much better in a short amount of time.
“She is safe with us now and we’re thrilled to share that she’s healing quickly, gaining weight and on the road to a full recovery! We are beyond grateful for this incredible community’s support and Reese’s amazing foster family,” the rescue wrote on Instagram.
The real show started when Reese finally came out of her shell! Unexpectedly, she became a fashion icon and the cutest PJ’s model ever! Initially, she wore PJ’s to protect her fur during recovery, but she dazzled everyone with her chic look. Rebecca and Walker supplied Reese with various fashionable outfits, ensuring she never needs to go shopping again (though they probably will).
Reese also became the family’s sweetest cuddler, loving to snuggle on her humans’ laps and enjoy the affection she had missed out on before.
The Sweetest Update
A couple of months after finding her caregivers, Reese received the greatest gift ever—a forever home! An amazing family reached out to Wags and Walks with one wish: to give Reese a permanent, loving home.
The rescue posted an Instagram update, sharing the incredible news with Reese’s community. “Tonight she’s in her forever home with an amazing, loving family who loves her as much as she deserves to be,” they wrote.
Reese now lives the best life possible with her new family and a doggy sibling who loves her. She gets to go on exciting adventures without worrying about being abandoned again. And the best part? She still gets to wear her cute outfits!
