All Kelly, a sweet pup, ever wanted was love, but instead, she faced rejection. Used by a cruel breeder for profit, she was abandoned when no longer useful. Starved and sorrowful, Kelly roamed the streets, seeking compassion and love. Despite her mistreatment, she still believed in the goodness of humans.
Kelly Arrives at the Shelter
The Humane Society of Broward County in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, rescued Kelly from the streets. Her malnourished and neglected state broke their hearts. Upon arrival, Kelly charmed the staff with her adorable personality, hungry for love and enjoying the cuddles from her new friends.
“Kelly is an absolute love bug and enjoys being with people and getting affection. She is goofy and likes to play with chew toys and go for walks,” Susan Leonti, the digital marketing specialist at the Humane Society of Broward County, told Newsweek.
The staffers wanted to find Kelly a home as soon as possible. They knew she needed a loving home to experience true happiness. The shelter shared Kelly’s story on social media, showing a hopeful pup standing in her kennel and wagging her tail.
The Short-Lived Happiness
A wonderful couple, looking to adopt their first dog together, saw the video and fell in love with Kelly. The next day, they visited the shelter, eager to take her home. The shelter staff were overjoyed, thinking Kelly had found her happiness.
On her adoption day, Kelly was ecstatic, her face beaming as she said goodbye to her shelter friends. Her new parents took her home, hoping to make her happy and give her all their love. Unfortunately, it wasn’t meant to be.
Shortly after bringing Kelly home, the couple discovered that one of them was allergic to dogs. Sadly, they had no choice but to return Kelly to the shelter. Kelly, having had a glimpse of happiness, felt it taken away from her. Back behind the kennel bars, she felt brokenhearted.
“Since being returned, Kelly has had such a sad and worried look on her face. When we walk by her kennel, she cries out to us and has a look of desperation in her eyes. It is simply heartbreaking to see,” Leonti added.
A Dream for True Love
Though Kelly loves her shelter friends and appreciates their affection, she dreams of having her own humans. She longs to experience true love for the first time in her life. I hope that Kelly’s dream will soon come true. This affectionate pup deserves to find parents who will dote on her and make her happy.
