We learned about a severely emaciated dog in desperate need of help in Rio Grande. She was put in the barn for the past few days with some food and they felt she was cured. We paid the carrier for gas to pick her up and take her to the emergency vet in Corpus Christie, TX. We named her Trinity!
Trinity has a body mass index of less than 1, is very anemic and has no weight on her right hind leg, plus she has an old fracture in her front leg that hasn’t fully healed. The vet said she hadn’t eaten anything in a long time. Of course, she was so dehydrated and anemic from the severe flea infestation that they recommended a blood transfusion. She will have to slowly be reintroduced to food in very small amounts and possibly special foods.
The veterinary staff told me she was willing to live and extremely sweet. Trinity’s care is just beginning, with her hips, legs and known problems as well as special foods, continued blood work, rehabilitation.
The emergency room vet also X-rayed her legs and she had a lot of problems with one of them being a missing knee cap. She has such a will to live. Trinity is now stable but her prognosis remains guarded. Her recovery journey will be long and challenging, and she will certainly face many treatments to address the problems plaguing her body.
But faced with all this, Trinity is fighting HARD – determined to win her chance. And it’s an opportunity this precious girl absolutely deserves.
